IMail® Lists, LISTSERV® Lists, WebHelps POP3/SMTP Email and WebMail |
We have confirmed that Yahoo, HotMail, Comcast and AOL are now accepting deliveries from our mail server. |
| 11/21/08 12:14am CST |
IMail® Lists, LISTSERV® Lists, WebHelps POP3/SMTP Email and WebMail |
Over approximately the past 12 hours, our SMTP server received over 35,000 spam emails, all of which were sent from spoofed email addresses. The spoofed addresses used domains of the major mail hosts, including AOL, MSN, HotMail and Comcast. The spam emails were sent to bogus addresses on our mail server, and as a result, they were bounced back to the "From" addresses used in the emails' headers. Because the spam emails were all identical and were all bounced within a short period of time, the mail servers receiving our bounces mistook our server as the source of the spam. And because most of the spoofed sender addresses were invalid, it appeared our server was attempting to locate good addresses through trial and error. The end result of all this was that our mail server was temporarily "greylisted" by AOL, MSN, HotMail, Comcast and others. We have submitted immediate removal requests as possible, which should take effect within the next 6 hours. In any event, the greylisting will be lifted by all mail hosts 24 hours after implementation. Filters have been put into place on our SMTP Server to prevent the spammer from continuing to send mail to our server. |

IMail® Customer Domains POP3/SMTP Email and WebMail |
Newly updated Recommended Rules have been implemented on all IMail® domains in order to help reduce the amount of spam getting through. One new Rule in particular is important to be aware of. The Subjects of all incoming emails must contain at least two (2) words. This is to combat one of the latest spam trends, which is to send an email with one word for a subject and only a text URL in the body. The anti-spam filters have no possible way of catching these spam emails, which are always sent from spoofed email addresses. For now, this new Rule is sending all emails with one-word subjects directly to the Spambox. If you are encountering difficulties with this Rule, please submit a Help Ticket and let us know. |

WebHelps POP3/SMTP Email and WebMail |
Several new Inbound Rules have been implemented in order to help reduce the amount of spam getting through. One new Rule in particular is important to be aware of. The anti-spam filters have no possible way of catching these spam emails, which are always sent from spoofed email addresses. WebHelps POP3/SMTP Email and WebMail |
A switch in databases for the whathelps.com domain has made it necessary to reset the passwords for some of the accounts. This includes accounts that use any of the domain aliases for whathelps.com (e.g. webhelps.com, teachinghelps.com, webhelps.biz, etc.). If you receive a password error when attempting to login, please submit a Help Ticket and we will manually reset your password. |
| 07/23/08 12:51am CST |
LISTSERV - 550 Relaying Denied Error |
If you are using your own subdomain with LISTSERV and have subscribers who are getting 550 Relaying Denied errors when they attempt to send posts to the list, contact your domain host (usually where you registered your domain, or your web site host) and have them create an MX Record for your subdomain that designates mx.nethelps.com as the mail exchangor. |
| 07/21/08 1:16pm CST |
LISTSERV Backup Lists on IMail |
If you have not yet switched your IP address or otherwise switched back to using your LISTSERV List, we recommend you do so as soon as possible. Before you make the IP change request, you should probably login to LISTSERV Online (http://listserv.nethelps.com/wa.exe?LMGT1=LISTNAME), click the [command] button and then the link to HOLD your list. That will give you time to synch subscribers before mail starts going out via LISTSERV. There is no way to automatically add/remove subscribers from LISTSERV that have been added/removed while the list was running off IMail. You must do this manually. Your LISTSERV list is exactly as it was on June 30th at 10pm, when it was shut down for migration.
If the list of subscribers on the IMail backup list is accurate and you have not enabled Digest on the backup list, simply use Bulk upload on LISTSERV Online to overwrite the list of subscribers on LISTSERV with the list of subscribers from IMail. To easily get a copy of the IMail subscriber list, logon to IMail List Administration at http://lists.webhelps.com/iadmin, click the List Users link, and then the View Users link near the bottom of the page. |
| 07/17/08 6:16pm CST |
LISTSERV |
LISTSERV is running normally following migration to the new web server. The new IP address for LISTSERV is 72.55.164.207. Send posts to: ListName@listserv.nethelps.com. Send commands to LISTSERV (such as subscribe/unsubscribe requests) to listserv@listserv.nethelps.com.
Until the new Account Manager is online, please login directly to LISTSERV Online to manage your list. The new link to LISTSERV Online is: http://listserv.nethelps.com/wa.exe?LMGT1 (case-sensitive).
The new link for LISTSERV List Archives is: http://archives.nethelps.com/ListName.html.
If using your own domain/subdomain, substitute listserv.nethelps.com and archives.nethelps.com in the above with your domain/subdomain. |
| 07/02/08 07:30pm CST |
IMail Lists |
IMail Lists are now running normally following transfer to the new database. Until the new Account Manager is online, please login directly to Web-based List Administration (WLA) to manage your list. If using your own domain or subdomain with your list, login to List Administration at http://YourDomain/iadmin with the list owner's WebHelps username and password. Otherwise, login at http://mail.webhelps.com/iadmin. |
| 07/02/08 06:30am CST |
Discussion Forums |
The Discussion Forums now running normally following migration. Some forums have updated URLs, so please check to be sure you are using the correct link to access your Forum. The URL (link) should be:
http://dcforum.whathelps.com/webhelps/cgi-bin/forums/dcboard.pl?az=list&forum=FORUMNAME |
| 06/30/08 @ 03:31pm CST |
Email Notice to Discussion Forum Customers Subject: Discussion Forum Migration - URL Change |
At approximately 6:30pm CST today, Monday, June 30th, we will be migrating
the Discussion Forums to a new web server and IP address. The new Discussion
Forum IP address is: 66.216.87.66. If you are using your own subdomain (e.g.
forum.mydomain.com) with your Discussion Forum, you need to change the
pointing of the subdomain to the new IP address, or the link to your
Discussion Forum will not work. (We will make all needed DNS changes for
custom domain (e.g. yourdomain.com).
In addition, some forums will have a new URL (link) to your Discussion Forum. The new
URL will be:
http://forums.webhelps.com/webhelps/cgi-bin/forums/dcboard.pl?az=list&forum=FORUMNAME
Note: Substitute "forums.webhelps.com" with your custom domain or subdomain,
if applicable. Substitute "FORUMNAME" with the name of your Forum.
Please change any links to the Forum that you may have on your web site.
==========================================
Generally, when an IP address is changed on a subdomain, there is a short
period of time that the subdomain does not work because the IP change is
propagating across the Internet. Most DNS servers update their IP records at
the top of every hour, so IP changes are usually effective worldwide by a
quarter past the hour (although it's possible for it to take longer). During
any period of time your subdomain is not working, your Forum will *not* be
down. You may still use your Forum with the default subdomain,
forums.webhelps.com.
________________________________
Why is your Forum being moved?
WhatHelps?, Inc., d/b/a WebHelps.com, is in the process of restructuring its
business. Beginning July 1st, we will reduce the variety of services we
offer in order to focus on our core services, IMail Lists, LISTSERV Lists,
Chatterbox Lists and Chats, Discussion Forums, Domain Registrations, and
Secure Certificates. A one-year Domain Registration, Site Maker website,
Chatterbox Instant Messenger, and @webhelps.com email/webmail account will
be included with free with all accounts, and added to existing accounts that
previously did not include them. All other services will be moved to another
provider, or discontinued.
________________________________
What does this mean for you?
If, in addition to the Discussion Forum, you were subscribed to a service
that is being moved or discontinued, you should already have received an
email providing you with information about that service. There will be *no*
changes made to your
Discussion Forum.
The only changes you may see, depending upon the type of account you
currently have, are with your Account Manager and the free services
included with your account. Your account may be switched to A la Carte,
which automatically includes a free website with Site Maker, email/webmail
account, and Chatterbox Instant Messenger.
We do not anticipate any significant downtime during this transition,
although as with all migrations, there is always the possibility of
unanticipated delays. We will keep you informed throughout the process.
Should you need to contact your Support Team while your Account Manager is
unavailable, please use the Alternate Support Team Contact Form at
http://mailpost.whathelps.com/alternatecontactform.html. This contact form
will send a message to the Support Team even if the Account Managers and/or
mail servers are down.
The only potential inconvenience we foresee is that your WebHelps Account
Manager, which is being migrated to a new server and database, and/or our
new billing system may not be fully operational by the 1st. If that happens,
your Support Team will be able to manually make requested changes. Keep in
mind that, although your WebHelps Account Manager may not be accessible,
many administrative functions can be performed via the Administration
interface on your Forum.
An upgrade of our billing system to exclusively use PayPal's web merchant
services is underway. Unfortunately, PayPal does not provide a method of
bulk importing existing customer subscription accounts, so our Billing
Department must manually setup the billing for your account. PayPal will
require the confirmation of your email address as a part of the setup, so
please watch your inbox next week for this email.
We very much appreciate your business and apologize for any inconvenience
you may experience during the migration. If you have any questions, please
be sure to submit a Support Ticket and your Team will be happy to help. |

Email Notice to FREEbie Package Customers Subject: URGENT NOTICE! FREEbie Package Discontinued |
We regret to inform you that WebHelps.com will no longer be offering
its FREEbie Package service, effective 7/1/08, due to a restructuring of the
company. Beginning July 1st, WebHelps will offer only its core services,
IMail Lists, LISTSERV Lists,
Chatterbox Lists and Chats, Discussion Forums, Domain Registrations, and
Secure Certificates. A one-year domain registration, Site Maker website,
Chatterbox IM, and email/webmail
account will continue to be included free with all accounts. All other
services
will be moved to another provider, or discontinued.
Unfortunately, this means we will no longer be able to host your
free web site and the other free tools included in the FREEbie Package, but
your website will not be taken offline immediately. Rather, at approximately
6:30pm CST on Monday, June 30th, it will be moved to a new server, where it
will remain online for 30 days, until August 1st. The new web address for
all free web sites will be: http://free.hostinghelps.com/username (replace
"username" with your WebHelps username).
How can I get copies of (download) my site files after 6:30pmCST on June
30th?
------------------------------------------------------
Although you will not have access to Site Maker after 6:30pm CST on 6/30/08,
unless you upgrade your account, you will be able to download all of your
website files from the directory by going to
http://download.hostinghelps.com/username. Simply right click on the name of
the file you want to download, select "Save As" and either type in or browse
to the location on your computer where you want to save the file.
What if I already upgraded the hosting plan in my FREEbie account to a paid
plan?
------------------------------------------------------
If you have a FREEbie Package, but upgraded the hosting service to one of
our paid plans, your WebHelps account will be closed, but your website will
remain online. Your hosting plan has been moved to one of our Hostopia
partners. You will be contacted by the new web host soon with information
and instructions. Meantime, you can continue to login to your Web Hosting
Control Panel and EasySite Wizard using the "Hosting cPanel Logins" link in
the top-right corner of the WebHelps.com homepage
(http://www.webhelps.com/Info/HostingInfo/ControlPanelLogins.html).
What if I registered a domain with WebHelps?
------------------------------------------------------
If you have a FREEbie Package, but have added a Domain Registration to your
account, your account will *NOT* be closed. Rather, it will be switched to
an A la Carte Package and you will continue to have your free website. And,
a free username@webhelps.com email/webmail account and free Chatterbox
Instant Messaging account will be added. You will continue to manage your
domain via your Account Manager, and all of the free services included with
your domain registration (see
http://www.webhelps.com/Info/Domain-Name-Security-Management-Features.aspx)
will continue to be available to you.
How can I keep my free web site and keep using Site Maker?
------------------------------------------------------
If you like Site Maker and want to keep your current site, all you it need
to do is register a domain for your site with us for $9.95/year before
August 1st, 2008. We attach your current site to your new A la Carte account
and you will again be able to use Site Maker to build and edit your site.
What if I really need a totally free service?
------------------------------------------------------
If you need free website services, we recommend you give Bravenet.com a try.
Bravenet.com has free classifieds, calendar, photo album, chat room, and
more, including a no-HTML-knowledge-needed online site builder. |

Email Notice to LISTSERV Customers Subject: LISTSERV IP Change |
At approx. 9:00pm CST tomorrow, Monday, June 30th, we will be switching LISTSERV to
a new IP address. The new LISTSERV IP address is: 72.55.164.207.
Because you are using your own subdomain with LISTSERV, you need to change
the pointing of the subdomain to the new IP address, or mail sent to the
list using your subdomain will not be delivered to LISTSERV.
==========================================
During any period of time your subdomain is not working, your list will
*not* be down. You may still use your list with the default subdomain,
listserv.nethelps.com (send to ListName@listserv.nethelps.com). In fact, if your
subdomain is not working with your list, it might be a good idea to send a
message to subscribers letting them know what is going on.
Generally, when an IP address is changed on a subdomain, there is a short
period of time that the subdomain does not work because the IP change is
propagating across the Internet. Most DNS servers update their IP records at
the top of every hour, so IP changes are usually effective worldwide by a

Email Notice to Business Plan Web Hosting Customers Subject: Web Site Hosting Service Termination |
We regret to inform you that WebHelps.com will no longer be offering its Web
Site Hosting service, effective 7/1/08, due to a restructuring of the
business. Beginning July 1st, we will offer only IMail Lists, LISTSERV
Lists, Chatterbox Lists and Chats, Discussion Forums, Domain Registrations,
and Secure Certificates. Site Maker free sites, Chatterbox IM, and
email/webmail accounts will also continue to be included with accounts. All
other services will be moved to another provider, or discontinued, including
the FREEbie Package.
Unfortunately, this means we will no longer be hosting your Web Site.
However, you will *not* experience any interruption in service, because your
hosting account is being transferred to one of our partners, Hostopia.com.
Your web site will remain online throughout the transition, and you will
continue to be able to login to your Web Hosting Control Panel at
http://webhelps.com/Info/HostingInfo/ControlPanelLogins.html, even after
July 1st. Once the account transfer has been finalized, you will be
contacted directly by your Hostopia representative with any new instructions
for managing your web site and email.
If you are also subscribed to one of our core services, or are using the
IMail List or Discussion Forum service included free with your hosting plan
(and elect to continue with that service), your account will be converted to
an A la Carte account and your billing adjusted accordingly (please refer to
the price list at
http://pricelist.webhelps.com). Otherwise, your WebHelps account will be
closed on June 30th.
If you have prepaid for the quarter or year, the amount paid will be
prorated and either a credit applied to the fee for services being retained,
or a credit issued to your card on file to reimburse you for the remainder
of the quarter/year for discontinued services.
IF YOU WANT TO CONTINUE using the IMail List or Discussion Forum service
that was included free with your hosting plan, PLEASE LET US KNOW
IMMEDIATELY in order to avoid any interruption in service.
We do not anticipate any significant downtime during this transition,
although some of the core services are being migrated to a new web server
and database. The migration process is underway and is proceeding on
schedule. Additionally, all core services have an administrative interface
separate from the WebHelps Account Manager, which will be available for
day-to-day management tasks. The only potential inconvenience we can foresee
is that your new WebHelps Account Manager and/or our new billing system may
not be fully operational by the 1st. If that happens, your Support Team will
be able to manually make requested changes.
We very much appreciate your business, and wish you success in your future
online endeavors. We apologize for the late notice, and if there is anything
we can do to make your transition to Hostopia easier, please let us
know. |

Email Notice to Web Calendar Customers Subject: Web Calendar Service Termination |
We regret to inform you that WebHelps.com will no longer be offering
its Web Calendar service, effective 7/1/08, due to a restructuring of the
business.
Beginning July 1st, we will offer only IMail Lists, LISTSERV Lists,
Chatterbox Lists and Chats, Discussion Forums, Domain Registrations, and

accounts will also continue to be included with accounts. All other services
will be moved to another provider, or discontinued, including the FREEbie
Package.
Unfortunately, this means we will no longer be able to host your
Web Calendar, or free web site (if you are using that service). We've checked
with our partners, but none of them offer a comparable service for us to
recommend to you. The only option we are aware of is Bravenet.com's
web calendar service, which includes an HTML customization option almost
identical to ours (they copied it from us several years ago). Bravenet.com
also offers a free hosting service with an online, no-html-skills-needed,
web site builder.
If you have prepaid for the quarter or year, the amount paid will be
prorated and a credit issued to your card on file to reimburse you for the
remainder of the quarter/year for the discontinued service. If the Web
Calendar is the only service you are subscribed to, your WebHelps account
will be closed. If you are using Site Maker, your site files will be
available for download and transfer to another hosting provider until July
30th.
We very much appreciate your business, and wish you success in your future

we can do to make your transition to a new provider easier, please let us

Email Notice to File Sharing and Match Maker Customers Subject: File Sharing and Match Maker Services Closing 6/30/08 |
As the manager of your Support Team at WebHelps, I wanted to write you
personally to explain changes that are taking place at WebHelps.
Unfortunately, these changes, which are taking place very quickly, will
affect your File Sharing and Match Maker services.
The owners of WhatHelps?, Inc., the company that owns WebHelps.com, are
dissolving their business relationship at the end of the month. The
remaining partner is restructuring the business to focus solely on
its core services. Beginning July 1st, WebHelps.com will offer only IMail
Lists, LISTSERV Lists, Chatterbox Lists and Chats, Discussion Forums, Domain
Registrations, and Secure Certificates. Site Maker free sites, Chatterbox
IM, and email/webmail accounts will also continue to be included with
accounts. All other services will be moved to another provider, or

Unfortunately, this means we will no longer be able to host your
File Sharing, Match Maker, or free web site (if you are using that
service). We've checked
with our partners, but none of them offer comparable services for us to
recommend to you. The one option we are aware of is Bravenet.com, who offers a suite a services that includes many of the services we offer, including free web sites.
If you have prepaid for the quarter or year, the amount paid will be
prorated and a credit issued to your card on file to reimburse you for the
remainder of the quarter/year for discontinued services.
I apologize for the late notice, but we were just informed of the change in
services. We very much appreciate your business, and wish
you success in your future online endeavors. If there is anything we can do

Online Community, Wiki, or free web site (if you are using that
service). We've checked
with our partners, but none of them offer comparable services for us to
recommend to you. The one option we are aware of is Bravenet.com, who offers a suite a services that includes many of the services in the Online Community and Wiki Packages, including an HTML customization option almost
identical to ours (they copied it from us several years ago), and free web sites.
If there is anything we can do
to make your transition to a new provider easier, please let us know. |

Beginning July 1st, we will offer only IMail Lists, LISTSERV Lists,
Chatterbox Lists and Chats, Discussion Forums, Domain Registrations, and

Email Notice to Chatblazer Chat Room Customers Subject: Chatblazer Service Closing 6/30/08 |
As the manager of your Support Team at WebHelps, I wanted to write you
personally to explain changes that are taking place at WebHelps. Unfortunately, these changes, which are taking place very quickly, will affect your chat service.
The owners of WhatHelps?, Inc., the company that owns WebHelps.com, are
dissolving their business relationship at the end of the month. The
remaining partner has decided to restructure the business to focus solely on
its core services. Starting July 1st, WebHelps.com will offer only IMail®
Lists, LISTSERV® Lists, Chatterbox Lists and Chats, Discussion Forums, Domain
Registrations, and Secure Certificates. Site Maker free sites, Chatterbox
IM, and email/webmail accounts will also continue to be included with
accounts. All other services will be moved to another provider, or
discontinued.
Unfortunately, this means we will no longer be able to host your Chatblazer®
chat room. If you have been happy with the service, and definitely want to
stick with Chatblazer®, we will help you move your room, users, and
transcripts to Chatblazer.com. We have contacted Pendulab, and they have
assigned a support person to help make migrating to their service as
painless as possible for anyone wanting to move to Chatblazer.com.
Alternatively, we'd like you to consider switching to our Chatterbox Chat
service, which is just as reliable (if not more so), than our Chatblazer
service. With Chatterbox, you will be able to create multiple rooms, each
with its own user group and configuration options. The service can be used
either via a Windows client (a small program that users download to their
computer), or via their web browser. We would be more than happy to set you
up with a Chat account to test out, to see how you like it. If you decide to
switch to Chatterbox, we will do our best to import your existing users.
Unfortunately, your Chatblazer archives will not be transferable.
If you decide to stay with WebHelps and use our Chatterbox chat service,
your account will be converted to an A la Carte account (if not already) and
your billing adjusted accordingly (please refer to the
price list at http://pricelist.webhelps.com). If the new subscription fee is
more than you are currently paying, we will obtain your approval of the new
fee amount before making any changes to your account or billing. If you have
prepaid for the quarter or year, the amount paid will be prorated and either
a credit applied to the fee for services being retained, or a credit issued
to your card on file to reimburse you for the remainder of the quarter/year
for discontinued services.
I apologize for the late notice, but we were just informed of the change in
services. We will do our best to keep any downtime to an absolute minimum,
no matter what you decide to do. The only potential inconvenience we can
foresee is that the new Account Manager and/or billing system may not be
fully operational by the 1st. If that happens, your Support Team will be
able to manually make requested account changes. Chatterbox has its own
administrative interface (as does IMail, LISTSERV, Forums, and Site Maker),
so your ability to manage your room (and any other services you have with
us) would be unaffected by any lapse in access to your WebHelps Account
Manager.
Please know that we sincerely wish it was not necessary to discontinue any
services. We very much appreciate your business, and hope you will decide to
stay with WebHelps through this transition. We will do everything we can to make it as smooth as possible. |
